Buffeted by external forces, Phippsburg needs to reinvent itself for a future that is economically viable and equitable for all residents. To do that, we need cohesion and trust. Community storytelling can educate, build pride, create hope, soften factions, and in the process, strengthen the fabric of our community.
These stories showcase how Phippsburg has adapted to change over time -- reinventing itself after the collapse of industries such as ice, lumber, ship-building and shipping, and the recent decline of various fisheries.
The videotaped stories are available on our YouTube Channel.
The project is led by three organizations:
Phippsburg CARES is a year-old community non-profit promoting community, collaboration, and volunteerism.
The Phippsburg Historical Society has long served as the repository of our Town’s history, with multiple collections, including dozens of family histories.
The Totman Public Library has revitalized itself as a community hub, with several new community-wide programs, from book clubs to speakers series.
The Phippsburg Stories project is being led by a group of volunteers: Kate Cart, Ann Donahue, Susie and Dave Duncan, Jill Jensen, Adam Kernan-Schloss, Judy Mullins, Elisabeth Paine, and Robin Wallace.
